Curriculum Gabriel Altmann, geboren 1931 in Poltár, Slowakei. Studierte Indonesistik und Japanologie (1953-1958) in Prag, arbeitete acht Jahre als Forscher im Orientalischen Institut der Akademie der Wissenschaften in Bratislava, ab 1970 bis 1996 als Professor für mathematische Linguistik an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Hauptinteressen: außer Einzeldisziplinen der quantitativen Linguistik (Phonologie, Semantik, Textanalyse, historische Prozesse, Schrift, Lexikologie, denotative Analyse usw.) vor allem Sprachgesetze, Sprachtheorie, Wahrscheinlichkeitsverteilungen. semantics, text analysis, historical processes, script, lexicology, denotative
analysis etc.) particularly language laws, theory of language, probability
